Mississippi

I'm 65 and can actually remember Coke machines dispensing small bottles for a nickel each.

In high school I could take a girl to the movies, then out for a burger, and get by for not much more than $5.

Mississippi has a great network of community colleges, and tuition was $50 a semester in my freshman year (1969-70). A few years later when living in Nashville I considered taking some courses at Vanderbilt. An hour of credit, as it turned out, cost more than 2 years at that junior college during the time I was there. It really made me appreciate what a bargain college had been. My kids had to buy college text books in the $100 to $200 range.

Here are some points of reference for several commonly purchased items, starting in 1930. It's worth noting that the price of a loaf of bread dipped between 2008 and 2013, although wheat growers would likely know that.
