The other guys make a good point, however-the cost/potential return ratio may make it too attractive to ignore. If the crop fails, you can still plant something else next spring. Myself, I would give a Nov. 1 seeding about a 15% chance of success.
We got ours in Sept. 29th, our insurance date "Up Nort" is Sept 30th.
If you need straw, around here it usually sells for $15-20/bale off the field-IMO just about equal to production cost. No real advantage to growing it. I ended up chopping 40 acres back onto the field because I couldn't get it sold for a decent price and didn't want to stick more money into it for baling, as well as tie up storage space. | |
