We as farmers tend too moan & groan but we may be the only segment of soceity that have made real financial gains--for the under 40 group a lot have less disposable income now than 20 yrs. ago....In Canada jobs that have unions/pensions/benefits are shrinking and many families hold 2 part time jobs.....now gov't/civil service jobs have made tremendous gains & on average receive around 2X wages + a good benefit package compared too private industry jobs. Not really good for a soceity as a whole. Paper is full of jobs "here" in greenhouses to do manual labor for $11.40 CAD , the 3,000 temp farm workers here are on 8 month work visas living in bunk houses with other guys/women. 50 yrs. ago school drop outs could go to the city (Windsor) at 18 ,get a union mfg. job at top wages, work 30 yrs. and get a pension.....most mfg. gone and won't be coming back....largest tool & die shop just got sold too the Chinese...answers,no idea ?
