OntarioCanuck - ... More yield from a field protected by a tree line than one exposed to winds. At least that is what research in Ontario showed many years ago and personal experience proves that too.
That may apply in Ontario. In SE IL the tree line does nothing but cut yield. It reduces sunlight, uses moisture, and is a pain to work around.
