When in the field and I want to only change one gear, instead of putting my hand on the end of the shift lever, I like to grab the rail beside the gate, and move the base of the lever with the crook of my thumb. You have finer control of the shift lever and don't move it more than what you intended.
Very good advice. Get a newbe in there that wants to hang onto the knob and when he shifts up and still holding the knob the lurch will bring him down about 3 gears and when the tractor slows abruptly he'll go back up 3 or 4. Hopefully before any more cycles he grabs something else! It would have been a better design with a little thumb lever beside the rail probably. |
