If the installation is done properly there should be no problems with either propane or natural gas. Electric heat is a relative rarity up here in the great white north, mostly only found in OLD houses or apartment buildings... Home explosions are very rare, its not something I would lay awake at night worrying about. I more common, but still very rare, is carbon monoxide poisoning from poorly or improperly vented gas/propane appliances or furnaces.
