I agree that frost will work out the hard pan. In our soils, in a prehistoric salt water lake we have another soil problem. A salt layer about a half inch to one inch forms in the soil from 6" to 14" deep. This layer of salt can be readily see in dry dry times as the salt is not in solution. A deep tillage pass is used to move and mix this salt in the soil so as the remove the root burning high salt zone. This tillage adds to plant health and yields. We use this deep tillage on soils more after wetter years as that is when the salt moves in the soil forming the salt layer. boz


also: After the 730C ripper we finish field with a Summers coulter with a heavy packer pulled behind it. This pass leaves the soil ready to plant in the spring. The following years the soil is not tilled untill the process is needed again. Just what works here. boz
