Our fields dry out considerably sooner in the spring since running deep tillage (10in or more) in the fall.

Does not need to be done every fall tho. You're just wasting fuel.

Having another method of burying trash in between deep tillage is a good idea, I think. The two do not have to be dependent on each other.
