As said, duals provide stability as not to tip on its side with the load raised. Not for added traction in off road conditions. The rear end with its counter weight is usually what gets stuck anyway. They also make the forklift wider so you can't reach those narrow spaces anymore what a regular forklift is so handy for...

We used to have an older dualed Hyster, factory duals. Wide fenders and all. Now have 2 newer, regular Hysters. The older one was more stable on our gravel lot...
