I agree and don't. We can't ignore the effects but we also can't necessarily control other's behaviors.
Where we have failed, I think, is that we have gone so far as to remove many of the consequences for that behavior. Addicts get on disability and the like. We have to let those that behave in destructive ways experience the consequences to deter them, but more those who might consider doing the same.
So... Just a thought about addiction and addicts
