Subject: RE: Feed pusher question from below?

Northwest Iowa
For a lactating dairy cow to run out of feed is like pulling the milking unit off before she is finished milking out. Most guys will over feed the cows by 2-5% per day and then go back the next day and scoop up the stale leftovers and feed that to the young stock. This is trying to get that extra pound of dry matter into the cow to get that extra pound of milk. If you limit feed them, they will limit milk for you. So, by putting an edge on the feed floor, you would need some type of other equipment to clean it up and in most cases, that is called a hand run scoop. Who wants that? If you have a pen of milking cows that are eating 100+lbs of as fed feed per day and you over feed a pen of 80 cows by 3%, that is 240+lbs per day that needs to be cleaned up.
