Subject: RE: The 80's

S.E. Iowa
One thing I noticed in the 80 's was there was a lot of newer tractors on auctions and older equipment. 120 horse power tractors that had equipment that was sized for 70 or 80 horse power tractors. Old planters with new tractors. In the movie Country the guy had a pickup with the blue ford emblem in the center of the grill, that meant it was a 82 or newer. The movie came out in 84. I am not saying not to buy something new but a good planter doesn't know if a new or old tractor is pulling it which makes you more money. My father in law was in the exact boat of what I am describing. My opinion is what I observed at the time. I am seeing sale bills the same today but most everything is newer. I am concerned for the future of agriculture I have a 1688 combine that I think is gigantic it was the biggest they built at the time but now is the smallest. Where will that put todays kids in the future wanting to farm 600 Acres?
