Subject: Silicon vs. diesel

Callao, Missouri
I have a 900 gallon tank in the shop right now with the top cut open so that we can clean the inside of it out. After cleaning, we are planning to apply redcoat sealer to the bottom of the tank, and the ends (this is a horizontal tank). I would like to coat the seams of the two end caps with something like silicon as that would seem to be a easy place for the tank to leak in the future. Will silicon work, or do I need to find something else? It doesn't mention anything about a fuel application on the tube.
