Elmira, Ontario

Thanks for the shout-out. I had overlooked this thread.

Despite growing up in the area, including having a Mennonite heritage myself, I have a hard time wanting to speak as an expert. There are so many variations, and there have been some changes in some of the groups over the years. What I've noticed in this area is the groups will adapt when there is a greater purpose. For example, once it became well established that winter manure spreading can have environmental issues, some groups that farmed only with horses added skid steers to the mix. Like one of the group told me, he didn't mind forking a load of manure a week through the winter, but he wasn't going to fork a year's worth of manure in a two week period. The leadership of that group adapted.

So now we have skid steers pulling wagons down the road. Unintended consequences, for sure!
