That's the issue with lots of ambulance companies as well as the air evac services.

Here in Wyoming, there are lots of times, the air evac service is dispatched and they transport no one. We used to have an Air Method helo based here in town, and for some reason, there were several criteria which, when mentioned to the 911 operator, would cause the helo to be launched.

There was more than one time we EMT's/VFD guys were working on a case and suddenly, the helo was overhead. We're all looking at each other, asking "Did you tell dispatch to launch them?" "No, I didn't, did you?!" and so on, only to find out that the dispatcher launched them - and we, on the scene, could do nothing with the air evac service.

There's stupidity in the medical community up and down the line. The more I see, the more I can explain why things cost so much.
