North of London | There seems to be areas where the plow is used lots and other areas where you do not see much plowing at all and it is not all to do with soil type.
a lot of Oxford County is fairly light or loamy soil and should respond well to no till but then there is always the problem of trying to plant corn into wheat stubble
Seems to be more plowing the last couple years than there used to be for a time.
Locally far fewer plows but lots of different primary tillage used on wheat stubble mostly.
Not sure what route you took.
Off 401 at Woodstock?
I know the area around Thamesford has a number of large operators who seem to take corn off all winter so little plowed ground around there.
BTW were down to Ingersoll on Sunday and surprised by how many farms of soys were still out as well as at least one farm of edible beans and lots of corn, harvest is mostly wrapped up here but then we are in the snow belt here, Oxford misses most of the lake impact. | |
