Subject: RE: hay field traffic patterns

Little River, TX
Keeping to previous traffic lanes is worthwhile, just avoid becoming hung up on it.

Some years ago a California Grower modified his equipment enough to keep all wheel traffic on top of each other. He carried this to the extent that he insisted the fellow picking up the hay with a self propelled NH bale wagon back off the field when the truck was loaded.

ABI is selling some alfalfa varieties that have low set crowns and a more branched rooting system to counter some of the stress caused by wheel traffic. http://americasalfalfa.com/head2head_wheel_traffic1.htm
That is a reasonable idea.
My field layouts are such that I can exit or enter the field from ether end. Still by the nature of the equipment I have multiple wheel tracks for each windrow. Add to this I have 5 fields with some degree of point rows, which do not lend themselves to tram line operation. I am sure those using a center pivot can give some exciting examples of running in an existing track.
