Hazelton, Kansas | Menno,
We commonly load trucks on the road, but we load them directly out of the combines. We run long augers but only 25' heads, so we can get across most grader ditches. We also run duals on the combines.
One rule we have is to swing the auger out and in while the combine is stationary and positioned next to the truck. We came within inches of buying an unloading auger once when approaching the truck with the auger out. A bank caved in a little and dropped the LH side of the combine to the extent that the auger dropped about 3 feet.
Whether it is practical for you to run without a cart obviously depends on yield, header width, and bin capacity. For us, combine range is usually a mile or more.
STO here. We unload when we're close to the truck. On our combines, we can swing the auger out and even engage the unloading auger before the full bin buzzer goes off. :-)
Regards.
