Spoked closing wheels are important in NT because the soil has some structure and therefore resists actions to press the furrow closed as is done with smooth OEM closing wheels in soils that have been 'de-structured' with tillage. Slicing or crumbling actions become necessary for adequate furrow closing in NT.
