There is only one thing to remember about a Mag drill. Take it off the frame before you unplug the cord to do something else! A decent mag drill and a cutting tool will machine holes in the frame slick as butter. No pinched fingers or bloody nose.

I understand your reasoning for shortening the truck, but wonder about driving it like it is for a while to see how you get along with it. We have both shortened and lengthened in our shop. Neither one is fun anymore. Both take a lot of small parts to make it work out.
