Subject: RE: Refrigerator Machinery

central - east central Minnesota -

150 farmer - 10/30/2016 08:38 What is everyone's opinion on a good reliable refrigerator. Our basement fridge went out after only about 6 yrs. It was a GE side-by-side, bought at a "big box" store. NOT a cheap model. Bought it on sale, and expected it to last a long time, but didn't. Had a refrigeration tech look at it, and he said compressor was running, but not drawing hardly any amps, meaning: low on freon (leak) or compressor bad. He did not recommend fixing it. What's a good, reliable, brand? FWIW, the 30 yr. old frig that went out of our kitchen and into our shop, and is still running is a GE. Guess they don't make them like they used to.

The business model for Appliances is a useful life of 5-7 yrs . . . . . . If Speed Queen (wisc based heavy duty commercial company) would make fridge's, I'd consider them - as far as what the market has to offer today ? I'm convinced, any of the box stores (Sears, Menards, HomDepo, Lowes, etc, etc) all have the same quality - a 5-7 yr model.
Get the most energy efficient, least expensive one they offer, and good luck. Save the savings dollars for the next one in 5-7 yrs.
