north central Iowa, Hampton | If you're buying it from a Challenger dealer, they've most likely looked at the Reaction Arms. If not, take your phone camera with the flash on, stick it down low on the front side, between the two steel tires on the back axle and point up toward the rear axle. take the picture and see if there is ANY evidence of oil. There have been several updates to that reaction arm. The last one is supposed to be holding pretty good.
If you see any oil, you'll spend around $5000 per side to replace with a reman direct from Agco. If you run it till it fails, it's probably more like $8000 if the core's still usable. If it's totaled (they can burn) it's more in the neighborhood of $12000 each.
If it's been repaired in the last couple years, it should have the new style and you're likely ok, just change the reaction arm oil every time you change the crankcase.
