My Dad was an OB doc for 23 years before moving into psychiatry in part because of the malpractice insurance. He delivered around 3000 babies during that time.
He had a friend that was a gas passer (anesthesiologist) who was paying 40 grand for malpractice insurance. Think thats a lot? The story is 30 years old. Think what it is today. The insurance side is a huge factor.
I saw one of his bills from about 1954.
