Po, isn't like 20% of the cattle that you have that are choice. That seems right, but could very well be wrong. There are other prem.'s to be had, and most have to do with black cattle. I think Hereford has a thing now also, but I'm not familiar with it. Good uniform cattle can be sold on a grid, works well if they match up and are steers, heiffers don't work so good, and to make it work, you better like sorting fat cattle. We sold a bunch of mixed steers and heiffers on the grid one year. I sure liked those sterling silver steer carcass's, but (and this really pissed me off, because these were cattle from my cow herd, I knew how old they were) I had some heiffers they called hard boners, or something like that and they were discounted enough to make it even out, I'd have been just as well off to sold on the hoof. It's been a few years, but if I remember right they split the cattle at the 13'th rib, and if the cartlidge on a heiffer is not pink you get the discount. I assume it's to try and eliminate heifferetts, and to make it even out.
