Use the lever at the rear of the chute to open and shut the headgate. Standing behind the animal it will naturally walk toward the headgate and as soon as the ears go through pull lever, really easy imo.

I worked 50 calves by myself with my manual arrow crush (chute) last weekend, no problems at all.
