Ridgway, IL | I vote to give the market a week, then re evaluate.
This last week has been the first reprieve we've had in some time in the live cattle market. I don't want to say I'm super bullish, definitely not. But the way the volatility is in everything commodities nowadays it could just be the start of a little retracement in the fat market. If you could get an opportunity, to sell a little pop in the fats... It could make your decision really easy for you, to send them to the feed yard. Really I think your only two options are that and breeding them. Kinda feels like a bit of a buyers market at the sale barns we watch. So if any sort of defects in heifers of that size, I feel like you could get really disappointed hauling them to the auction.
So deciding between breed and feed out, I say the decision to breed is a long term one, and you prob don't have to breed them this exact week.... i guess id challenge myself to say, if I can sell these as fats for x$ by x date, I will. If not, turn out the bull.
