I also get by products from a local seed corn processor and have tried this, with little success. I found the cobs to be too dry and they just turn to dust, sounds like a rock going through the mill.

If you can, get what comes off the sheller, (not sure where, I don't work there and have never seen the process, just going by their terminology) it's got small pices of cob and kernels from the tips.
My friend has ground this with 200#of molasses and fed it to cows over the winter with hay.
I grind a 50/50 mix with shelled corn, 200# oats, 100# molasses and Kent baby beef for a starter ration on my feeders and work my way to strait ground shelled corn at finish.
Just my experience, your mileage my vary.
PS, the cob is excellent bedding.
