N FLA | Oh Buford, in comparison to the $1000 AI heifers mentioned above. No way in heck is this a fair price in comparison. The last 12 months cow buyers here just get a tingle up their leg for bred cows and don't care what price calf they are selling as long as they have the opportunity to have a calf soon.
That said $1000 sounds way too low in your area, as you are probably selling 1400# open cows for $750. Although a guy might be smart to pocket $750 and wait another year.
I told friends: I know 2 groups of guys that have 60 to 80 put together bred heifer groups, they both said if they can't get $1800 they don't have any reason to sell. I say, after me personally spending the last 2 days putting a heifers tit in her calves mouth, these guys are completely foolish and have more to lose than to gain. | |
