In my opinion they should do away with the fuel tax and tax road use based on miles driven. It would be fairly simple to implement. Every year when you renew your registration an odometer reading would be taken and the registration fee would be based on that number. That way a Prius would pay the same as your 4x4 pickup. And road tax money should be used strictly for roads, not railroads, bus lines, moving sidewalks, or any of the other hair-brained (or hare brained, if you prefer) ideas the politicians spend money on to repay special favors.
