If you plant in tilled fields and wait until the soil is perfect, stick with the OEM wheels.

Like that's ever going to happen and doesn't the Bible suggest you'll never plant if you wait for it to be perfect? ;-)

I have soil that likes to crust after planting as well and there are always the random wet spots to deal with (90% perfect, 10% should wait a week) - and I run a one pass finisher on bean stubble. I started running martins (both) with drag chains and it's been a great investment. I usually run no or very little spring pressure on the martin closing wheels and it leaves the ground 'friable' above the seed. Last spring about every seed I planted emerged and we had lots of variable conditions to plant in.

Hope this helps,

Pat
