In my opinion your better off with a two pass system
, kill the rye then come back after the rye gas died down, seems like when you put a residual on a cover crop or thick weeds it never holds as long as it should and I have to wonder if too much chemical 8s getting tied up in the plant residue instead of hitting the ground.
