This applies to my area-my conditions.

1. if the ground isn't plowed once in a while you can't get seed into the ground with 
    dynamite.  The other option is ripping, disking etc.. end result more time fuel spent
    with all those trips across the field than just plowing.

2. I rill irrigate, little ditches every 34 inches across the field. Can you imagine trying to
    run ditches with a bunch of trash on the surface ?

Mother nature makes me work harder to get the crops wet. It just doesn't fall out of the sky.
