Near-north Ontario, French River
If you can grow corn successfully then soys will be a snap. You can use the same planter as well, although you will have to get bean meters and swap out you corn meters. .. When you plant, just get them into moisture, but no deeper than about 2.5 inches... less if you are on heavy clay soils. In a no-till situation the spray timings are similar to corn, you want a burn down followed about 3 weeks later by a post emerge spray. Alternatively you can spray a burn down and come back pre-emerge with a residual program. Consult your local agronomist for an appropriate chemical program, any advice I could give from 500 miles away without knowing your local conditions would be akin to throwing darts at a board in a darkened room. If soys are common in your area chances are you can skip funigicides as disease should be low. Oh... if you haven't had beans before be sure to innoculate your beans, this can be done at planting time by mixing in the seed boxes or more preferably at time of seed delivery... our local co-op has capability to apply seed treats as well as innoculants at time of delivery. Helps keep things viable.
