Subject: RE: Disc vs. chisel on bean stubble

Windom, MN
Almost everyone chisels their bean stubble around here. We are the exception, the only thing I do is run my disc ripper over the ends in the fall. Dad is part of southwest farm management, and we see that we are on the top third of yields for corn and beans, so we will continue to not work our soybean stubble. Spring time is an application of pre emerge and liquid nitrogen, then a field cultivator pass, then plant. Other fertilizer is usually applied in the fall and just left on top.

It works for us, I think that too much tillage is a bad thing, but up here it seems like a little tillage is necessary.
