gndfarms - 10/8/2016 11:38 Just got the beans off some sand ground, umd says rye will germinate down to 34 degrees, im assumeing thats ground temp. Planning on planting next week. This planed for grain and straw
what is rye's claim to fame? Bushels, price? Thanks

On light sandy soils, it's the only thing that will yield something, besides weeds. Generally, with the poorest soils, fertility - it'll still yields 30 bu grain and a ton or more of straw. It also breaks up the soil and helps with soil health (lots, lot and lots more fibrous root structure). Better potential return, then soy's or other small grains.
