Actually just started striping a field a few hours ago. The reason that I strip till is because of the area and soil types. Around here we have some heavy soils but also some lighter soils that I would like to build the O.M. in and also conserve moisture. To me it makes sense in the fact that I have gone from three passes to fertilize down to one fall pass, but low areas still get chisel plowed because if they weren't worked there would be no getting into them next spring. As for the variable rate, with the changing soil types in some fields around here you would be wasting money by applying the same rate of P & K in the sandy soils as you would the heavy clay soils.
