Subject: RE: Snowblower power requirements for different designs??

My old JD 270 (early 1970s vintage made by McKee) is a dual auger, two stage, 7 feet wide. But it's only rated for up to 75 PTO HP on a 540 shaft. I was always told it's the size of the blower fan that dictates HP requirements... regardless of width or number of augers. Later JD dual auger blowers (275, 686, etc.) were rated for higher HP... but any blower should have a recommended HP rating so you know you're using the correct size of tractor. I had to contact JD corporate to learn the specs on mine.

Anyone else running a vintage Deere blower?
