southern MN | Living in Minnesota about as far away from a coast as I can, I know nothing about hurricanes.
(Place my wife works at was bought by a Florida company, she had to go through the company hurricane procedures, which was a hoot, but they still don't have a working snowstorm policy - too funny.... Anyhow.)
It looks like Matthew is following the coast as close as it can, giving maximum water and wind to a long stretch of coastline without making full landfall and weakening. More often they make landfall, and hit a single area hard but fall apart fairly quickly.
Little different.
