n.c.iowa

I can't help you with what beans can be legally saved back, and the ones that can't be. but here are some thoughts to ponder.    the companies that have pvp protection patents in effect on the RR1's are going to have to do their own enforcement now, beings big M has moved on.   I wonder how many are geared up for that?

back in the hoopla days of pirated RR1's litigation by Monsanto, usually the tips to somebody saving seed where from the offenders neighbors, i'm told in 97% of the cases this was true.   one call to a 800 number was all it took to get the ball rolling.   now what's a guy going to do, call all the different seed companies on suspicious neighbor?

even if that is the case, I highly doubt that most of the various companies have enough staff to follow up on more than just a few cases.

I know there has been some warm fuzzies posted on here about stines bean saving program, and while realizing that his program involves liberty beans, I believe after some study that somebody in the organization has come up with this program as a way to police their products, without bringing more staff on.

the worry might be all moot anyway,  asgrow it would seem, is on a pretty aggressive schedule to have nothing but extense beans in it's lineup in a couple years anyway, be interesting to see if the other companies are going to do a phase out of RR1's that quick, it might be a case that the only way you can plant RR1's is to save them back yourself.

I am in no way advocating breaking the law, just some thoughts.
