Subject: Mr. Matthew the Hurricane

Hastings, Florida

Starting to get real windy here, about 30 miles from Daytona. We had over 3 inches of rain the past 2 days, from a Nor'Easter not connected to hurricane, so we were already wet. They say our winds should be about 80 to 90 mph about sun-down today, with about 8 to 10 inches more rain so it will get worse. All the stores shut down last night, gas stations are out of fuel. They advised all folks who were near water to evacuate, placed a curfew on the beach area towns, shutting off their public water systems. Authorities say about 30 % evacuated, interstates were jammed until about dark.As I drove past the bars last night, it was business as usual.Walmart closed yesterday, they were out of a lot of items.
Folks here are just starting to plant winter veggies, like cabbage, broccoli, oriental produce, etc. Maybe 1000 acres in our area so far. Most of that will probably be lost.
Overall , just a typical rather bad Florida hurricane, a major pain in the butt.
