Subject: Terminating RR Alfalfa

NW MN
Have a new field rented for next year that is currently in RR alfalfa. Looking for ideas on killing it in preparation for LL soybeans next year. Hay has been mowed for the year, the stand has not grown back much. Never raised alfalfa so I'm in the dark to how best to do this. We will see a hard frost tonight, or very soon. Will this put the alfalfa into dormancy and make spraying a no go?

Spraying out this fall would be one option. 24D amine and dicamba blend sound like a good plan? Could also chisel plow the field but would the live alfalfa leave a cloddy mess like chiseling sod?

Another thought would be to leave it stand and suck moisture out of the ground in the spring before terminating it. I see problems getting things sprayed timely come spring if I do this.

Thoughts? Thanks.
