You might add a little wheat to the mix. Wheat usually gives me a little more late fall growth growth whereas rye has more spring and root structure. Personally HERE I would seed the grass with the covers. It may not emerge this fall but with the covers to stablize the dirt, it will emerge and grow early next spring. I usually let the covers mature before bushpigging next summer- let the shattered seed fill in any bare spots.
