North Central Texas | Intensive grazing in northern texas and southern oklahoma is possible but not sustainable. This and last year it would work due to excess rainfall. We get too many months of no rain forcing many more acres being used or way more feed being fed than originally planned. Problem is most the studies are for X months not the full year. The east texas numbers are correct and you can run 1 cow to 2 acres but you have to manage hard and spend money on fertilizer.
I'll add that irrigation helps make intensive grazing work, but the cost of pumping the water will take any gains. | |
