Redickville, Ont | I'm not sure that the problem. We only use a lot cattle manure and like plant spuds out of sod. We put between 50 to 110 lbs actaul down where most guys are double that. Our soil is more of a loam. It's heavy but has limestone rocks or boulders underneath to let it drain well. You would think after you cut field hay for 5 years that it would use up the nitrogen if there was too much in soil. Even on year 5 with no fert for 6 years still have the problem. We grow seed potatoes so we have to let field sit for awhile to get rid volunteers when switch varieties. I think if I cut back on grasses on our seeding down mix would help but I pasture these fields too and don't want to much alfalfa or clover. Thanks for replies.
