South Central Montana | We're one, maybe two generations from being the Europe our ancestors left. The rich will own the land, the poor (farmer) will work it. A few that are big enough now will get to be bigger and their offspring will be as the "Lords" of old.
The little guy (a few hundred acres) will be gone, mainly due to the cost of machinery. In 10 years a 25 year old worn out piece that the part time hobby guy can afford will be so electronically technical and weigh enough that it will be worth 3-5000 as scrap and 8-12 if the engine turns on. Guys that can't gross $100,000 will cease to exist unless they just raise horse hay and eggs for their neighbors.
The "medium" sized farmer will basically be a custom machine company for the investment companies that own the land.
Africa will become agriculturally competitive (think how farm brazil has come in 30 years) and primarily owned/invested by the Chinese.
There will be even less of our population that has nostalgic memories of small town America and agri-"culture". The rules/regulations will make it so that only those with degrees/lawyers will really know if they are operating legally or not. | |
