North Central Kentucky | Pretty much agree with this. Unlike other areas, average herd size around here is probably 40 or less. I am a decent sized producer here, but would struggle to put together a semi load of similar aged feeders some years.
I think when you comingle small groups into large groups with various management practices and then truck halfway across the country, it puts those cattle at a disadvantage.
Unfortunately, unless someone wants 50 calves and not 150, there is no way for my practices to gain additional revenue for me, but I still do it because I gain a little in the weight department and that's how I would want calves delivered to me. | |
