East central Iowa

I used to believe that companies such as ADM would own the land.  However it's logical to simply control the market.  If you are the only buyer you can set the price and force land owners to sell at your price.

Regulations will force small farmers either out or to conform.  Big corporations are hand in glove with the government and contrary to popular belief want regulations.  Regulations can be absorbed by big business but drives out small business.  The large corporations are using this to their advantage and will use it against farmers.

With the influx of cheap labor from immigration and the improvement in automated equipment it's likely you need a foreman with some knowledge and a lot of people who simply need to show up and follow directions.

If certain groups are successful in their fight to reduce the protein diet there will be less livestock.  Livestock requires more day to day management than corn or soybeans.  And there is the waste problem which will exacerbate production as more regulations are imposed.

It's possible that at some point in the future there will be restrictions on rural living.  It's logical to keep people out of factories and that's what farms are today.  It would be safer, healthier and economically wiser to rid the rural areas of people who have no purpose there other than a desire to "live in the country."
