Subject: RE: Rain

Northeast Iowa
Last Friday we ran our first corn through our wet holding bin that goes about 7 feet below surface.

Belt broke and tured everything off. The wet auger got plugged with wet corn as hard as concrete. We wrecked the tube and flighting pulling the auger out of the below grade bin, but it was old and needed replacement soon anyway. Also broke the Grain vac cleaning the couple hundred bushels out of the top of the bin.

Got the new auger and flighting, dropped it in the dry and clean bin yesterday. Started it up and dried some corn. Wasn't long before the new auger scraped just enough concrete out of the bottom of the bin that ground water ERUPTED into the floor of the wet bin.

Huge mess. Groundwater level is still above grade in many fields nearby. We won't be drying any corn at home for a while, and fingers are crossed to have almost no rain for the next month.
