If a US packer thought there was a market for pure US beef, they are still free to label as such, but when you don't allow a label that says mix of (in my case) Can and US beef it discriminates against imports due to the cost of making the label accurate. There are a large number of consumers that don't care where the beef comes from as long as it is cheap. I bet if you polled consumers they would be happy with Can US mixed beef, vrs stuff from China. Canadian Ag buys lots of stuff from the US, you might loose more than you gain if you want to start restricting trade too much, especially in the border states. | |
