Subject: RE: Feeding wheat screenings to cattle

Montana
I have been feeding a lot of wheat screenings and I think the important thing is to make sure they have enough forage to get a belly full. I know you must not feed any more than 20 percent of the ration. A person has to be very careful with weed seeds. We had a person in our area who was feeding screenings to sheep and the cowcocckel seed caused huge problems. I know it is wise to get a good analysis and very good nutritional advice. The sheep man had a nutritionist but the nutritionist did not know about the toxicity of the cowcokkle.

The sheep feeder sued the Elevator where he got the screenings and got a settlement. That caused a lot of upset in our community as many of us had been using screenings in a cow cake for years.
